first off the 97 ss was the lt4 i believe so that is a whole new animal. the lt4 made around 310 hp as much as a stock ls1 z28. u prob wont beat him stock, but it wont take too much to beat him all u will need are some 410's and some headers and maybe a plenum. but the plenum not so much. ur car is about 150-200 lbs lighter so it wont be that bad and the lt4 was not anything amazing they ran stock like a 13.8. so good luck.
Not all of the SS camaros came with the LT4, actually only 100 in the us (per wikipedia). You're right about the power though, it would compare to a stock LS1. Chances that he ran into one with an LT4 is pretty rare.

Gears, exhaust, and good driver modis enough to beat lt1. Ls1 is completely different story..

Are you guys sure exhaust, gears, and 75 shot will be enough to beat an 00-02 SS Camaro? Or is it equivilant to drivers race?
