Are Nitto 555s' for drag or twisties?
Hi all,
I will be getting tires soon and have heard everyone talking about the Nittos. While I want something that will hook ( for that occasional ***** in a beemer), I really want more of a handling tire, up in the mountain twisties sort of thing. Are the Nittos good for that as well. Please give me any and all advice, it is much needed.
Thanks

according to nitto's site the 555extremeZR is a street radial, the 555R is a true drag radial, and the 555R II is more of a cornering tire...marketing or purpose you choose...I have the bfgoodrich KDW's and they hook good, havnt put many miles on them

Nitto makes a more track geared radial that is also soft, like their R's, and I believe its called the NT01? My buddy with a terminator said his friend put them on his cobra and loved the hell out of them. Check Nitto's site, I believe they are described to be good for dragging (soft), but also handle well on road courses.
Hope that helps,
Shawn
EDIT: Might be the 555r II's like stated above.

i think the normal 555r's handle very good in the twisties.. even without warming them up and such... they outhandled all the other tires i had on the back... all the other tires the car would like to slide sideways and kick the back out... i can take the turns to the limits of the front tires now and the rear stays right with the car

What do you run in the fronts? I was going 555 all the way around, are they just or mostly for the backs. I'm looking for a 275/40/17 for all 4 corners.
