im hard wiring my radar detector in, but i hooked the power source to the fuse for the radio(thinking the detector will only come on when the car is on..) but it still is powerd up even when the car is off.i do something wrong?

Are you sure its to the radio? Mine is hooked up to the radio fuse and it only turns on when i turn the key

You have to hook it to a remote wire not the radio constant power. Find the remote wire from your radio and hook in there.

do you have to turn your radio on also? or just key it up?? Im fairly sure its the radio. i looked it the location in my owners manual.

take a test light to the fuse holder and see if the power turns on and off with the key (it should) if not i would guess you just tied into the wrong fuse. i did that when i did my radar detector up. freakin ford electrical, i guess they can make one of the coolest cars ever, but they cant lable the fuse box

i had to hardwire mine too, i dont understand why all other cars have their ciggarette lighters off when the key is out, but ours stays on. i guess its handy if you smoke a lot. i wired mine into the fuel pump fuse by the way, just because i has already made a splice into it for the water pump on the intercooler.

Not to hijack here, but what is the proper way to hardwire from a cigy lighter to the fuse box. Ive always just spliced but i want to hard wire my GPS and it draws to much power and the adapter is complex and i cant just break into it?

nvm figured it out, theres 2 fuses for the radio. i was using the wrong one.
