What are good parts to buy to build my rear end to withstand 500rwhp.

You can get a ford truck rearend with 31 splines and beat the hell out of it day in and day out. You can find them for 100 to 200 bucks.

some nice Moser, Strange, or FR 31 spline axles, Detroit truetrac differential and T/A cover.

Are the truck axles the same width?

I bought my ford racing 31 spline axles from JEGS, and my detroit truetrac from d'agostino racing (one of the sponsors here).

How does this work? has anybody done it? will it fit right?

I'm not sure about the axles themselves but a 8.8 31 spline traction lok out of a Ford truck will work fine (if you use 31 spline axles of course). However the traction lok differential uses clutches that will wear out over time - especially with hard launches, driving, etc. Whereas the Truetrac not only offers better traction, but uses no clutches, and therefore never has to be rebuilt, or maintanced besides changing rear-end fluid.

+1 It will work though. I think it would be cheaper to refurbish one (if you know the right people or can do it yourself) than to buy all new stuff. Alot of guys around here with fox's do it. One in particular has run almost every weekend for the past two seasons 4-8 times a nightrunning consistant 6.4x's (1/8th) with a truck rearend under his car. I personally plan on going thesame route Machwon went simply because I have this strange disorder that prevents me from putting anything used on my car.
