Default Help with steering

I just bought a '97 convertable gt and was making a turn when all of a sudden the steering wheel turned but the tires did not. I'm not up on my mustang lingo yet, but the "male" rod that fits into the "female" rod just below the steering collum before the fire wall had come apart. What holds these together? I have since mated them back and I tried to get them apart at home and now I cant, but I'm affraid of this happening again but in a worse situation (driving on the highway and having on steering). Please help!!! Thanks and looks like a great forum. Dan

I can't remember quite sure but when I have changed out a K-member I thought there was a clamp that tightened on the end. It is a square fitting if i remember right. Just a 7/16 wrench to tighten it also make sure you steering wheel is lined up right, or you will have a steering wheel that is upside down or some crap like that..
