Default tire sizes

Hi I have a 98 GT with 17 inch rims. What is the widest tire I can run same size front and back? Also if I wanted to run stagered what is the widest in back I can go with? Oh and rim is measured 9.5 inches lip to lip.

275/40/17 all around to rotate, but you may wanna make sure 9.5 will fit up front. I know 9" will no problems! The widest out back on those would be a 315

I was thinking of 275 40 17 as well! I have the rims on now (no clearence problem) and just purchassed 255 40 17 and they look a little small diameter wise. Si wanted a little more width and height to fill up that large space.

Will a 275 50 17 work?

DD Rims FTW!! I prefer the staggered stance.. 245/45 front, 315/35 rear.

If you go with a 275 you want a 275/40/R17, not the 50s.

I need some beef on the rear as well. So lemme know what you decide. I'd like to keep to 2 best tires i currently have and just get 2 new wide ones for the rear.
