did the lt4 come in the ss? i thought the lt4 was only the grand sport vette option, and then u could convert an fbody lt1. we are of course all just speculating. he could have had a fully forged 396 race ready H/Cmotor running a 300 shot and weighing 2700 lbs.

Actually 99 cobras are suppost to be 320 at the flywheel but my camaro SS definitely had more power. Not for sure why that is, all I had done to the SS was a K&N airfiter and some different spark plugs. I have read about many of the 99 cobras having a recall for being over rated in horse power. Not sure if my car went through that recall or not but that is something I intend to find out.

Ya, I can honestly say im not as comfortable driving the 5 speeds as I am the 6 speeds, dont really like the gear ratios in my t45. However, My car just seems to be slow compared to what I would expect from a 320hp car. LOL... the cams were one of the first things I looked at and I about freaked to see that a simple cam could cost me upwards of 2g's. Thanks for your reply will check those headers out.

LOL, I wish! it was just a stock 96 camaro ss w/ 6 speed, rated at 305hp and had a k&n air filter. I believe that you could get an LT4 in the 97's but I think they were rare and they werent putting out tons of hp they were only rated at something like 335hp ( so I have heard at least).

Actually the story behind that sucks! Totaled the car because of some deer. Was not a happy camper. The camaro would have been awesome for modding but unfortunatly about the time I had the money to start doing some cool things to the car it was totaled. Cobra was just kind of an impulse buy lol. But I do like my mustang... thanks for the reply

Thanks for the info was helpful. I had thought about 3:73 gears, just wondering if 4.30's would be overkill for something thats just going to be a street car? Also, I have actually never used nitrous in any of my cars, how did your car react to it? Ive always been a little freaked that nitrous would F something up. Would be interested to know how its been for your cobra. Thanks

4.30 gears are more for the track, not street. 3.73 are the best all around for gas milage and power. You could also put 4,10's in, the gas milage difference is about 1 mpg but thepower you getis better. Get a smoother inlet tube for the intake, C&L has a good pipe, and a k&n air filter. You could also look into different headers, shortys or long tubes (your choice) andfree-er flowingmufflers. That should hold you for a lil bit. You could do a chip or just tune it after all that. Using nitrous in our cars would be like having your nuts slammed back into the back seat. Shorty headers are more for top end power, but cobras already have good top end, so I, personally, would go with LT's. Try to get the tubes as close to equal length as you can. Good luck!
