Is a high pitch whine common from the fuel pump. Or, is it a sign of problems to come?

You'll hear it when you first turn the key pretty loud, then once you start it you can hear it if you're right behind it. It's loud enough to hear over stock exhaust but I don't know about loud exhaust (hell my exhaust is probably quieter than stock at idle).

I replaced mine because of that reason and when I started it up after I put in a new Ford one, it was making the same noise. It's normal.
