Default x-cal fried computer.

A friend of mine just called me to say his mechanic told him his computer is fried due to his x-cal tuner and told him it is common for a tuner to fry your computer. I call BS on that. He only had the basic tune installed along with the t/c and 02 sensors turned off. Anyone else hear anything like this happening? This is a first for me. 02 GT btw.

I have read hundreds of posts about tuners on this & other forums & never heard of that. I would believe the tune was corrupted or didn't load right, has he tried to reload is stock tune. Did this happen after he loaded a tune or at a later time. If an improper tune was loaded the car wouldn't start but the computer would be OK, just need to be retuned.

He`s had the tune on the car since late last summer without any problems untill last week. He said the car ran real $hitty and the guages were bouncing around from time to time. Then all of the sudden the car just died. I would say it`s an electrical problem.
