Best/Cheapest place to buy built bottom ends??
It's almost time to buy a new bottom end. Im looking for something that can handle around 600hp. As long as it can handle that I'm not too picky on what it has inside like a forged or cast crank or whatever... but yea... thanks.

Texas Hot Rods has a couple for ya...
THR Forged Pistons, Forged H or I beam rods, and Cast Nodular Iron crank, balanced and assembled with ARP rod & main bolts, new 4.6 block, .20 over ready to ship for $2995.
Forged motor same as above but with Forged 8 bolt crank $3495.
Here's a couple pics of some of our engines:

How much HP would that handle safely??... and thanx!

The Stock crank should live at 600 HP with a proper tune. There are alot of variables as to estimating the point of failure for the 4.6, but most of what we've seen through the shop is that detonation or too much boost will kill the stock rods. I haven't had too many broken cranks be the weak point compared to the number of 4.6's we've seen the rods let go in.
If you are looking for a budget build, go with the cast nodular iron crank and limit it's power to 650. That is enough to put a full weight GT in the 10's with traction. For a couple hundred more you could do the forged crank and have a bullet proof bottome end as well as some more resale value if you ever traded up to another car.
Let us know, we'd be glad to help another board member get some serious HP under hood.

RE: Best/Cheapest place to buy built bottom ends??
dont go with DSS. They are goin wayyyy downhill. I made the mistake of buying a DSS longblock, from the day it was put in the car it made noises, so it was taken out of the car and shipped back to dss. They are in the process of trying like 5 different excuses and none of them make any sense and all of them have to do with an oil delivery problem. First they tried saying pick up to plan clearance was not correct, then when we told them that we used spacers but didnt send back the spacers to them (because they didnt come from them in the first place) then they tried saying the pickup must have a small hole in it that you cant see.(pickup was also purchased from dss) then they tried saying the 2 bolts holding the pickup to the pump werent tight enough. so they sent me pictures of the pickup and pump and the gasket was on both parts which means that the bolts were tight enough to get the gasket to be stuck firmly to both pieces. Not only are they not willing to take any responsibility at all, they are telling me it is like going to be over a grand to fix it. Also if you look at their site you can see that they are looking for an engine assembler??? Coinsidence? or maybe the old assembler was fired for screwing up? or maybe he quit cuz they were bouncin his paychecks? or something else... it all just seems too strange to me that they keep comin up with all these excuses and when we keep proving them wrong they come up with new ones.
In my opinion your better off goin with a company that is on an upswing, and not one thats on its way down the tubes. I mean I went with them because of their reputation for making a good product. But am finding out the hard way that their customer service is not really cutting it... so far..LOL well see how this turns out..

well for 2800 u can buy a MMR 900 forged shortblock w/forged crank and that shortblock is good up to 900 horses. Or u could buy the MMR 600 w/cast crank and its good up to 600 horses for only like 2300. Look it up at modularmustangracing.com
