Default Tuner Question

Why, according to company claims, can i free up 100 horsepower with a tuner for my diesel truck, but only free up 10 (if im lucky) with an 89 tune for my mustang.

10? You might gain 2 hp[&:]

Don't those diesel tunes turn up the boost too? A diesel and a gasoline engine are two very different things/

It's already a forced induction vehicle. Some turn the boost up and some just allow the truck to hit high boost as soon as you hit the pedal. And 100hp is only for the cheap tuner. Keep looking into it you will notice they have complete engine management systems for like $1200 that come with a turbo timer, A/F ratio, different settings depending on what you are doing. Diesels are a very untapped resource as far as power output and longevity. Hell 100k miles on a diesel motor is BREAKING IN where our motors are starting to see the ends.

Name a motor that can idle all day in 120 degree weather, put out 600lb*ft of torque, be daily drivable, and still get 25mpg pushing something that weighs 8000lbs

ill tell u one thing.. im not getting 25mpg with my truck haha but im usually carrying around machined metal or construction equipment. so if a diesel tuner just turns up the boost to give u more power, wtf does a tuner for our gas engines do... not much if we gain 2 horsepower, but what exactly does it change

It can change timing, your a/f ratio, and such. Not very much. A tune from a shop with a dyno is much better.

I was getting 25mpg in my 99 Powerstroke before I sold it. My dad's 2000 Cummins gets 22.5mpg. The Ford had a Superchips tuner and the Dodge has a Hypertech. Ford was putting out 26psi and the Dodge puts out 21psi.

EXACTLY. Thats still better than your car and you are more comfortable and ridin high. I sold my truck cause I couldn't afford the payment anymore and my mustang payment is about $150 less. Plus insurance is about $60 cheaper.

yeah im sort of regretting the purchase of this mustang, should have stuck with an ls1 or something. although, if it were easy to mod a mustang, everyone would do it and who doesnt like a challenge, just hate the price of modding a 4.6. just a shame i have to go F/I to creep near 400hp
