Wow. Lots of stupid info in this thread!
The IRS in my car has worked out ok. I had problems with it for a couple weeks, but I've figured everything out. You have to drive/treat the car differently than an SRA. Its just different.
Fitment is easy. It bolts right up with the right brackets and such.
"REAL" power does not break IRS's any more than they break SRA's. I've cut 1.8 60ft's on 255 Street tires at the track, so
gets a big [sm=smiley21.gif]
This rearend has handled 450+rwhp and 550+Ft-lbs on many occasions without one hint of a problem.

The IRS is somewhere around 175 lbs heaver than the stock solid rear setup. Unless you're looking to be different, or looking to handle better, i'd leave the solid axle in it. It will kill any straight-line times you have.

Thats not true, unless you consider 425 real power, which it's not... Real power is 600+ to the wheels. I've known quite a few stock or mildly stock IRS set ups to handle much more than 500. The breaking Half shafts is an "old wives tale" told by people that don't properly PMCS their cars before they start beating the **** out of them or they just hear what their brothers uncle Jim's, nieghbor, told them happend to this one guys nefue around the corner. It's easier to believe that a half shaft is weak because of the size and newness of the aplications, esspecialy in new muscle. But thanks for the input.

pain in rear to install, maybe give you a good ride, put real power to the rear-end and you'll break the halfshafts

Regardless, I don't see any reason why it would not fit. You will have to do something with the exhaust, but everything else should be exactly the same as a 99+ car. I have never done the swap (few have) but I don't see any reason why it cannot be done.

We don't need no stinkin exhaust! haha Turn downs! Sounds meaner than it is....
My next question would be, will my 17x11 315's fit? I was on American Muscle looking at 17x10.5 FR500's and it says they don't fit 99+ IRS cobras.

i have a 99 irs installed in my 97 v6 chasis,
exact bolt up even used the same drive shaft, i had to rerout the exhaust and the e brake cable, and use the cobra brake lines, also your wheels wont fit, the irs is .75-1.00 inches wider on each side, so if you have that wide a tire it will move the wheel out about 1 inch on each side! ! !
as for the weight, i dont notice it at all.
but the ride is 1 million times better,

Thanks a million onegreedy... Is there anyway to get shorter half shafts or is that the only option to have them wider? Also, Does anyone know if someone make a wheel that will tuck under but still keep the 10.5 inch range for 315's?

P.S. My IRS has stock 99 Cobra 28 Spline Axles. throw in some 31's and you have a durable, great handling rear end.
