Default Kinda disappointed in my GT

I bought my 98 GT(totally stock) off of eBay from a used dealer in Texas, it's atlantic blue with grey leather, 5 speed, 17" wheels & CD. Since I've had it, about 1 month, I've had the intake replaced, rear brakes changed, differential fluid changed, oil changed, radiator flushed, added AT Flowmaster exhaust, just added the B&M Ripper shifter. I've ordered the Knig Cobra clutch and Steeda firewall adjuster and quadrant. This should be here next week. Now after I've done all this I am starting to feel like I should have gotten a WS-6 TA. This thing is just plain slow!! Yeah, I know I haven't really added any bolt on's that will give more hp, but after I add those "power enhancement" bolt-on's I could have gotten the WS-6 TA. I've had a '90 GT that I bought new in '90 and I swear it was faster than my '98! I've also had a '96 TA that I KNOW was faster than my '98 GT. I also had a '95 Vette that was faster than all of them. I thought the drop in power wouldn't bother me, but MAN WAS I WRONG!!! Also, even though I've added the Flowmasters it just doesn't rumble like my '90 GT and all I ever did to it was add a couple of Dynomax mufflers. But, I like the body style more than the '99-'04 GT's and that's why I went with this model year...maybe I should have gottten a '98 Cobra??

I guess I'll keep it for a while, but the honeymoon you normally have with cars is ending much sooner than I had anticipated.

The 96-98 GT's were the slowest made since the early 80's - don't get down - a PI swap would set you straight or a power adder

Yeah....After owning all those fast cars....I'm sure a 98 GT would feel slow to ya....Well your starting in the right direction...Start with exhaust, LOL...You gotta get that baby sounding right.....I thought 98GT's were about even with the 87-93 fox bodies? Not quite sure...I'd better research that..lol

The early 4.6's are alittle heavier than the Fox Bodies...

yep, non-PI 4.6's sure aren't too hot rod. I mean, they aren't slow, but they sure aren't fast, not to mention that modest powerplant driving super tall stock 2.73 gears. But I was suprised at how mean a smallish 4.6 can sound with a good midpipe and cat back. I think even just the flowmaster 40 catback sounds pretty mean. With some bolt ons and some gears I think you'll be a lot more pleased with the car. Though it will take some money in mods to even get it running with stock v8 F-bodies. I mean, if you want cheap power for the track or for when that LS1 camaro lines up next to you at a red light, put some nitrous on the bastard. A stock 4.6 can easily take a 150 shot of nitrous...You'll suprise the hell out of the dude driving the camaro as you blow him away, haha. But yes, stock non-PI GT's aren't nothing to brag about, haha. But hey, generally speaking, they can still kick some *** in this world of turbo 4 cylinder ricer mobiles.

It's kind of funny , but I can relate to you 100%. I bought a '90 GT brand new - kept it for 2 years, modded it, and sold it. I've got a Vette now, but I bought my wife a '98 GT. It's bone stock. I think it's got a nice sound, for a stock car, but the first time I drove it, I said "Something's wrong with this thing, it won't REV!!". Just the way it is... I'm not going to mod her car to death to get it to where I think it's fast, because I don't drive it... She doesn't know the difference. Had I known this, I would have gotten a '99.

I agree....just mod the hell out of it! I really love my 98 GT. The only mod you have is flowmasters...so there are many bolt-ons you can do. Replacing those 2.73's will make the biggest difference. Also, get an o/r h-pipe and that car will rumble like a beast[sm=trust_me.gif] Doing these mods alone will get you to run with the 99+ GT's

I wouldnt worry about it now cuz u only have a flowmaster catback on it. Do some more bolt ons, get a and X or H pipe with some high flow cats to releave all that back pressure on ur engine. put a cold air intake on it (u can get them off of ebay for about 50 bucks). I wouldnt start to think about selling it yet. But if u could afford a cobra and u like the 98 body style, im wondering why you didnt get a cobra. They have more HP than a 99+GT
