Key Programmed
When I bought my Mustang, it only had 1 key. After searching eBay, I bought a blank PATS key and a clicker. I've already programmed the clicker, now I need to get the key cut and programmed. After checking with 3 different dealerships, I was quoted:
1. $40 for 1/2 hour work
2. $80 for 45 minutes
3. $100+ for at least 1 hour, but it could take longer. that was after he took about 20 seconds of going hmm...I don't know...etc.
now obviously I'm not going with option 2 and 3, but how hard is it to hook up a little computer thingy and program a stupid key. it takes about 30 seconds if you have 2 keys already and need to program a 3rd key.
is $40 a good price, or am I gettting ripped off?

After you get the key working, do yourself a favor and buy a THIRD key and program it yourself.
The golden rule of PATS (2 system) is to NEVER have less than 2 working keys!!!
With the older PATS 1 system, you only need one working key to make another.
I'm in a similar boat because I have 2 working keys, had a locksmith cut a 3rd for me but it will not program no matter what I do.
I have to go to the stealership to get them to give the PATS system an enema to get it working.
It's a scam I tell ya.......

it is a scam...one this annoys me no end. I wish the dealership I bought the car from wasn't 100 miles away. I'd take it back and demand a new key...oh well, you live and learn
