Default Tuner Question

I recently got my hands on a Superchips (not SCT)model 1725 tuner for $20, I figured it was worth it since I'll need to do the speedo fix anyway. I know this thing comes with 2 canned tunes and was wondering if this thing is worth doing anything with other than fixing my speedo and maybe disabling the speed limiter since it says that the tunes are for a mostly stock car.

I've read these things cause pinging with the canned tunes and would like to get some feed back from someone that has actually used this thing. I emailed Superchips with a list of my mods and got a "it might work, and it might not work" type answer. The tech guy said try it but I don't want to FUBAR my engine over a cheap tuner.

Do not use a canned tune. Custom tune or no tune.

Thanks, I think this thing is going in the trash anyway. I just talked to Superchips and they said I can't even use it to fix the speedo unless I put the canned tune on. Oh well, live and learn.

if you're not looking to spend the big bucks on a tuner yet, DallasMustang speedcal is what you need.. $100, then when you get the tuner, have that fix your speedo for your gears, and sell the speedcal..

I'd rather get the tuner up front since it provides flexibility down the road. Plus one thing I hate doing is farting around with wiring and it looks like the speedcal would require quite a bit of farting.
