Default 5spd appreciated

When you guys have run at a track (1/4 mile speaking) what gear are you guys in when you cross the finish? Because i have yet to take my car to the track, but i have gone a few times without a real 1/4 mile. And been in 4th gear in my runs, and wondering when the 1/4mile actually ended, gear speaking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it depends on what gear ratio you have in the rear end.

When I went, I was just hitting red line in 3rd gear crossing the line at 97. Next run I tried to throw it in 4th, and lost almost half a second. Just keep it in 3rd, if you go into the red line a little bit its not gonna kill anything.
