Default Ignition: (Oh, the work I have to do on my Cobra...)

I bought a '98 Cobra last month. The car was such a steal that I had to beat off 20 other potential buyers and speed to Anaheim with cash in hand on the day of the Craigslist postto get the darn thing. Whether or not it was in perfect condition, the car was still a great deal.

As you might have guessed, she needs some work. I guess this couldeasily become a series of posts since I can think of7 jobsthat need doing off the bat,but it's probably most constructive to just ask aboutone for right now... First things first... ignition!

The engine turns over a lot of times before coming to life--usually about 2-3 seconds of trying. This doesn't seem to increase with time (now 3 weeks), but definitely decreases with engine temperature/driving time. When I start her up cold to drive to the store, the engine turns for 2 seconds, but when I get back in the Cobra to come back home, the engine starts right up. How should I go about diagnosing this problem? Possible issues:

1) Ignition coils
2) Spark plugs and/or wires...
3) Battery. This seems unlikely since it's solid at 12.5V every time I check it, and since it's only a year old.

Any advice on how to diagnose this??? Are there other potential problems I'm overlooking? (I'm sure there are ).

Thanks
Jon

The car is almost 10 years old.. it isn't exactly not normal.

Do the plugs, wires, air/oil/fuel filter and see what happens. I never buy a car without doing the basic tune up, no telling what the last owner did or did not do.

Thx. This is what I'll do. I'll post again if this doesn't improve the situation...

2 seconds is not excessive for the age of your car, hell even my car takes 2 seconds. Cars always start sooner once warmed up, nothing abnormal there.

My car is doing the exact same thing. Very annoying. All my ignition parts are new and it still does it. So if you figure it out let me know.

do the tune up and then try letting the fuel pump prime before you start her... Put the key to on for a sec, then try to start her up... should start up without a problem...
