Cold air and tune

Cold air and tune
Ok, ever since I installed my C&L cold air intake, it seems like my car has been running a little slow. With the intake, I've installed a new MAF. Now, I'm confused about these MAF's. I took off the black thing off the old one and put it on this new C&L one (The black thing on top of the MAF). Does this mean I never really bought a new MAF just a new MAF housing? If so, could this damage my car? It seems like some people are posting that it can cause the car to run almost too lean. I have a Diablo Sport Tuner (I have installed the standard diablo tune w/ a speedo change and thats it). I have exhaust, C&L CAI, and gears. Does anyone know how I could tune the car myself so that it runs better again? Or should I take the CAI off and just wait till i get the car tuned?
Thanks,
Vicente

RE: Cold air and tune
I was told by a tuning shop that the custom tune they give with the diablo for similar cars is to lean it out 5-7% and advance the timing 5-7% over the diablotune settings. I did that to my car and it was a noticeable difference over the diablo tune. as for your MAF......I dunno

RE: Cold air and tune
With the C&L kit, my car was acutally running richer than it should have. I had a diablo tune on a generic flip chip and the C&L kit (along with LTs, midpipe, catback, t/b, and plenum) and I was running a 12.2 or so with the chip "on" and a 12.4/12.6 with it off if I remeber correctly. I made another 8-10 WHP with the tune off.
It would be hard to tell what is going on without a afr check of some type, either a wideband you buy or (cheaper) getting some dyno runs done with a/f ratio. Most of the time you can get something like 3 runs for 50/100 bucks, so its fairly cheap to get it on the dyno and see whats going on. Without a dyno, it will be hard to tell if any changes with the diablo you are making help/hurt.
