I dont get what you're sating. The p1443 is a small leak in the evap system. Why would the purge control valve not be part of the system? Or are you saving the the PCV valve ('Positive Crankcase Ventilation' valve) has nothing to do with the code? I think that where alot of the confusion is here. The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve goes through the drivers side valve cover and vents into the intake manifold. The Purge Control valve is what we need to replace if I'm understanding this correctly. Both are PCV (as abreviations) but from what I gather, they're different parts. Yes...no...i dont know.

No No your right. I ment/said the PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve has nothing to do with it.

The big confusion is that there is a canister purge valve AND a purge flow sensor. They look pretty similar and I believe sometimes are even cross referenced at dealerships. I have heard the names/photos swapped interchangably, I am trying to find out which is which.

Ok so I called the repair shop today. They said they did a smoke check and found that the canister purge valve was leaking, so they only changed that. The canister purge valve is the one that has the electrical connection coming infrom the bottow, with thetwo vac inlets that are slightly offset from each other, and appears to be made of metal.
The purge sensor was not changed, and that is the plastic valve that has the inlets that are aligned with each other. This part sits just to the passenger side of the intake manifold, downstream (intake side) of the purge valve. I am going to run to ford to see what they get for the sensor, and try to change that and see if it works. If they are asking too much Ill probably get it from rockauto instead.

yes, the one that they changed was the original one I changed along with the carbon canister... did NOT fix my problem... then the other sensor was what actually fixed the cel...

I think what might happen sometimes is the purge valve (little metal canister looking thing) can get stuck open allowing too much gas vapor to build up onto the flow sensor (black plastic looking thing) and cause the sensor itself to fail and set off the code. Most places probably assume that the sensor is being set off by faulty equipment and never guess that the sensor itself is the faulty equipment.

I picked up the Purge Flow Sensor today from a Ford dealer. It was only $26 so I decided to just get it instead of ordering it through rockauto and having to wait and pay forshipping. The part in this picture is the Canister Purge Vavle/Solenoid. It is called the Valve/Solenoid because it is both, the metal part where it says FORD is the Solenoid, and attatched to the two outlets is the Valve. The Purge sensor is the black plastic piece. Easy way to tell the sensor from the valve, in a mustang or any car with a similar EVAP system is to look at the electrical connections. The Valve only has two wire (ground and power). Power goes to a 12v source and the ground goes to the PCM. When the PCM wants the valve open it grounds the Valve. The Sensor has three wires (ground, power, and a signal wire). The extra wire on the Sesor goes to the PCM to report a voltage value to let the computer know if/how much vapor is flowing past.
It is now clear to me, I hope it is clear to anyone else that was confused[:@]
So I will put it in my car tonight, pull the neg terminal, hope and pray... and reset my clock and presets... again... tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Where is the Canister Purge Vavle/Solenoid located on the 98 GT?
