I think so too. Ive had many LS1 power cars and still do along with a 2002 steeda supercharged gt. All LS1 cars start out at 13.4 to 12.8. As soon as you do "anything" to them they will go 12's. If they can drive. Put nitrous and slicks they will go mid 11's. hers some pics. The mustang and corvette are the current projects.

98-2000 have an LS1 intake but have a bigger cam lift than the 01-02. so it will balance them out, its easier to change a maninfold than a cam

stock to stock they have a lot more advantage than us. we need to mod to catch a stock LS1 and then mod some some to pass them.
so......

Trust me, the SLIGHTLY larger cam does not make up for the difference in the intakes. 01-02s typically put 10-20 rwhp more than a 98-00. And once the modding begins, its even worse.

Just bolt up a 75 shot of wet nitrous and you should be able to take them. But the thing is, once that bottle is gone, your gonna get toasted.

Off Topic, but why have there been so many threads lately about, "what mods are needed to take down an LS1"? Seriously, nitrous or F/I is the easiest way, but full bolt ons with some DR's and a few suspension mods might do the trick, or you could just add some cams and aftermarket heads along with DR's and that should do it. There are so many variables, hell you might run into 3 or 4 LS1's that are runnin 13.5's, but then the next 3 or 4 might be running 12.8's. If you dont wanna get beat than dont race an LS1 unless your fully prepared with some mods. Dont think I'm hating on the guys who have asked this question, but it has been asked alotlately and there are SOOO many variables.
I had full boltons, custom dyno tune, gears, and some suspension, and I put down 260rwhp which is about normal. A stockish ls1 put down 300rwhp stock. The advantage of the mustang is a rear end that can take alot of abuse. so if u get some DRs u can launch hard and get an fbody out of the hole. the advantage is in a short race, cuz the ls1 is all up top and could probably reel u in.

Im a big nitrous advocate. if u want to be able to pull ls1s on the street u will need at least a 100 shot on a stock 99-04 stang. a 75 might do it, but it would be close.

if u spray, get colder spark plugs and for gods sake get a full tune!!!!

you guys wayyyyyyyy over hype these cars. They are quick, but by no means unbeatable. My friend just bought one 2 days ago, a 2000 Z28 auto and ran an 8.86 @80 in the 1/8th with a 2.0 60"....at the same time by other friend with a 99 GT with cai, 75mmtb, plenum, catback, UDP's X pipe and SCT tuner ran an 8.89 @79 WITH AN AUTO FOLKS! no gears, no LT's no DR's..granted the LS1 was stock but they are far from un beatable...with an different launch this could have gone the other way...ps the GT won due to a 5.10XX R/T
Its a 98-2000 Z28 so it still used the ls1 intake rather than the ls6 intake like the 01s and 02s. It also was an auto so it only had 2.73 gears. You guys always race the lowest powered ls1s apparently...
they are all about the same power. the older ls1s have a more agressive cam. they tuned back the cam in the newer cars in order to remove the EGR and use the ls6 intake and still make emissions (mostly bc of egr) but the cars are all about the same
