Nitrous
Is nitrous really as harmful to a stock motor as everyone says? All of the people that ive talked to about nitrous have acted like your pouring acid into your cylinders. The way I look at it though, it cant be all that more harmful than turbo or supercharging. Can it?
No. Its not like some people make it out to be. Anytime you have forced induction, you are going to put more wear and strain on your motor. But its not like its going to just turn around and crap out on you after one shot. But it will decrease the longjevity of your motor, but so will going to the dragstrip.
Id run a nitrous kit but I know Id use it constantly and itd end up costing a lot of money by the time I was through with it.

Yep---IMO. Everyone around my area uses nitrous, and just about everyone that uses it melts their pistons, but their putting down some serious numbers when they do it. A local guy has a 96 cobra engine in a fox body,it had a vortech s/c, andnitrous, and he blew it up on the dyno, he was putting out more than 680hp and 730 tq, tothe wheels, andthats alot of hp and tq on a stock block with stock internals. Another local guy blew up two of his mustangs with a 200 shot, and his other mustang is starting to run like crap. That is just a fraction of the people using nitrous in my area that blows up their engines. I'm not saying nothing bad about nitrous. Some people say s/c and t/c are doing the same thing to your engine as what nitrous does, but it dont. You see Ford lightnings, 03-04 cobra's, new GT500, srt-4 neons, cobolt ss, Subaru sti, they all come with s/c and t/c from the factory with a warranty, But have you ever seen a car come from the factory with nitrous? NO. But nitrous, s/c, and t/c are all safe as long as you use them right and dont mistreat it, unlike the people in my area do( put a 200 shot on a stock engine that comes stock with 200hp). But if your thinking about using nitrous, go for it, just use it and be respectful, and you will be ok.---IMO

imo...... if f/i was that bad then why is it so common even on new cars??? do some research and you should be fine

saleen focus came stock with nitrous.
saleen focus came stock with nitrous.
But also read about the Saleen Focus N2O, the engine is built for the nitrous. Take a look at the ford lightning it just has theregular 5.4L that comes out in your basic everyday F-150.
IMO the reason why cars come from the factory with a S/C or turbo and not nitrous isn't due to safety.... sort of. Running nitrous takes a little common sense and effort like maintaing proper bottle pressure and such.Acar manufacturer (sp?) would be stupid to assume that the general public would be responsable enough to use it right. Hell if someone forgets to open the bottle, but arms the system and sprays (only fuel) they couldhave major problems. It's hard to make a dumb mistake with a s/c or turbo, unless you forget to put in premium fuel, which the owners manual states which fuel to run. Could you imagine all the do's and dont's the manual would have for the to release a N2Ocar togeneral public?
