Odometer blacking out (2000 GT)
Ok. 2000 GT 5 speed. My trip and odo keep shutting off. It will be fine, then it just goes black, then comes back. It only stays off for a few seconds to a minute or so, and it keeps counting miles, so it's really not that big of a problem. It just keeps getting my attention sine I do most of my driving at night and all of a sudden a light goes away and comes back. Another friend of mine has a 02 V6 and her car is doing the same. both are around 75k miles if that matters...
Been lurking on this forum for a while now, usually find answers from other posts, but I can't find any info on this ANYWHERE on the net lol. Thanks

Nope. I was just wondering if it was a common problem (since my friend and I both have the problem) and if there was an easy way to fix. Her stang is still under warranty and the Ford tech said "It's a ford thing"...didnt have any idea whats causing it/how to fix it

RE: Odometer blacking out (2000 GT)
This happened to my 2000 GT as well. The guyI bought my car from told me it was the only minor problem with the car. I was test driving it and he told me that it blacked out ocassionally. Needless to say I wanted it fixed before I took the car home. He had it repaired for close to four hundred dollars by a Ford dealer. Apparently, they have to take out your current instrument cluster, remove the odometer/milage chip and transfer the information on the chip to a new cluster.Letme know if you need anything additional.

Yeah, I would think it's a bad connection or corroded connection. But Solidsnakegt's explanation makes sense as well. I would start with removing the cluster before spending $400 however.
