Sounds like he just hologrammed it or scratched your clearcoat. If you want to try your hand at fixing it yourself I would go buy a variable speed rotary or cyclo and get a foam pad from o'reilly's or something. Start by thoroughly cleaning/preparing the paint with a clay bar and paint cleaner after a good washing. Next get out that foam pad and buffer and start by working some cutting compound in to the paint working one panel at a time. That should get the swirls out. After that use a polish to bring out a wet look and apply 2-3 coats of wax to protect all the work you just did. Or just take it to a respectable detail shop and pay tohave it doneand hopefully it won't be some buffer jockey who doesn't know what they're doing.

FYI its very easy to make the swirls worse if you're inexperienced with the rotary and using incorrect technique, but I was able to correct some of the minor scratcheson my car on a low RPM setting (800) during my first time.
