Sounds like someone may have did the ol' 3rd back down to 2nd shift.......no rev-limiter in the world can save you when that happens[8D]
Been there. You are right

A buddy of mine had a brand new 06 Gt delivered to his house, and he had all kinds of mods installed( procharger, gear, forged pistons, all the forged internals......). He also put a cervini's body kit on with the stripes, new paint job........ That thing looked Gooood. It dynoed atover 520rwhp. The dayhe had it dynoed tunedhe took it out to see what all it had, and he missed 3rd gear, and it over revved... He said the rpm's went to the max, all the way to the last number on the rmp gauge. He said he thought everything was alright, becausehis gaugesread ok, and when he got home, he took a look under the hood, and he said he had liquid that looked like coolant and oil and it was pouring out of the side of the block. This story is pretty pointless, but I thought I'd just share it.

sorry to hear that man, no rev limiter can prevent a mechanical over-rev

I think everyone has done the 3rd to 2nd mechanical overrev atleast once in their life. I remember doing it in my GT, thankfully since it is a NPI I shift it at 5200 at the most, and it only went up to about 6500 so there was no damage, but god, that sure does make you Sh*t your pants when you do something like that.
