clunk????
I just test drove a 99 cobra. It is at a dealership and has undergone an inspection. It has 66k miles on the clock and appears to be in good shape for being a 99. My only concern is that when I let off the clutch in 1st and 2nd there is a clunk noise. The dealer said it could be a heavy clutch and that his mechanics would have notified him if it was a tranny problem. Now my tranny makes some noise but what do you guys think. BTW cobras rule.
Personnaly, i wouldnt trust that guy at all. something isn't syncing right between the clutch and the fly or the tranny. maybe a busted pilot bearing or something. his guys wouldnt lie to him, but he shure as hell would lie to you to make a sale......those guys are slimeballs.
The "Clunk" is somewhat a common problem on 03-04 Cobra's. But I've never heard of it being on other year Cobras. This is myfirst time hearing about this being on any otheryear Mustangbesides the Terminator.
Some say it's a driveline issue, some say it's an IRS issue. No one knows exactly. Some people have swapped out better driveline parts and it went away, and some have swapped out for better IRS parts and it went away. Some do both and still have it.
I had it on my Cobra. Then I put my exhauston and it went away. I thought my exhaust drowned the noise out, but I don't feel the "thud" you feel with it so I know it's gone.

First of all, I seriously doubt the salesperson has any clue what's wrong with the car. Not all of us are slimeballs.....
"The Clunk", as many of us SVT owners have affectionately come to know it as, is usually (90% of the time) the differential bushings. Once in a very great while it's aU joint or diff issue and it's very rarely a clutch related issue.
I bought my car with 49,000 miles and there was no clunk. 8 year old rotted rubber bushing + hard driving = split bushings. They're $40 to $80 parts and once replaced with aftermarket (DO NOT USE OEM!) bushings it almost never happens again. They're about as difficult to install as springs so most of us can replace them....
I'm getting mine replaced next month for $150 because I'm too lazy to do it my damn self...
And yes, Cobras rule....[sm=badbadbad.gif]

It may have been with every gear just alot less noticable when moving. And I could not feel anything just heard it. He told me I could take it anywhere and have it checked out before I bought it, plusI have an option of buying awarranty. The car just looks, sounds and runs great compared to my GT. I just don't want to get into a car with serious issues.
