Default 96 short block W/ PI heads

I am buying a complete and sunning non-PI engine from my bud for $100, I am wondering if putting my PI heads on the 96 shortblock would yeild higher HP than a stock 02 2V? If not, I'm gonnd get come higher comp. pistons for it.

Im pretty sure that you should get more hp than a 02 2V b/c the compression after putting PI heads on a pre 99 block gives you like 11:1 compression. Its not alot more more but i do believe you do get more.

you will get a boost in compression to @ 10.3 to 1 with a 96 shortblock and PI heads. Stock for you is @ 9.4 ish

I wouldn't get any higher dome of a piston. I did have aftermarket cam but when I did my PI swap on my 96 short block I had VTP clearance issues as it was. I wouldn't go with a domed piston you're only going to make it worse.

He claims the engine was rebuilt 6,000 miles ago, and is still in perfect running condition. It is complete from intake to oil pan w/ front accessories. I plan on pulling it apart and inspecting everything THOROUUGHLY before i put it in my car. The original engine is beginning to show its age, and has recently been subjected to a decent amount of pinging and spark-knock (unintentionally of course...gas sucks around here). If everything comes out fine with this engine, it will be installed, I was just wondering if I could expect any kind of HP increase (I know it won't be substantial). I was just unsure of the size of the combustion chamer and static compression of the 96-98 engines vs. the 99-04 PI engines.

You'll probably pick up a few ponies because of the compression increase but nothing to crazy.

It should be roughly 10 hp more than a stock PI engine.

I just recently (Saturday)took the heads off a 96 gt block and mine had some dish in them. Are they still considererd flat top with that little dish or what? I am also doing the pi swap and noticed that the 96-98 rockers are 1.75:1 and the 99+ rockers are 1.81:1 will i have ptv clearance problems with the 1.81:1 rockers with comp cams stage 2 cams ground for a 96-98 gt?

I would definitely check it. It never hurts to check, you'll be awful pissed off if a piston comes up and kisses a valve.
