Default Shifting Problem???

I have an '02 gt with 30 000 miles on it. when I shift from 1-2 and from 2-3 at low rpms(2500) it is rough shifting and sometimes hard to get in gear. If I rev it up to 3500 or more it seems to just fall into gear the way it should, is this normal for rough shifting at low rpm? Also, could this be a clutch problem, the clutch seems weird, sometimes it engages about half way up pedal travel, sometimes it does nothing til about the top inch of the travel. This is my first mustang, so i'm not sure how the clutch should feel.

DO you know if any work was done to it before you got it? There is a lot of travel in the stock shifter and the clutch should engage smoothly. There should be no reason to slam it into gear. Sounds to me like there may be some hidden issues there. You need to ditch the stock shifter and get a short throw and change out the cable and quadrant. At least thats my opinion. But, you better have a look underneath to make sure there are no problems.

I have an 02 with 67,000 on it and i have never had that kind of problem. I rarely shift it any higher than 2 rpms anyways. Now i understand why so many people get horrible gas mileage on here.

I think its your clutch. Probably wiped. Also i would replace the cable and quadrant. should not be making that noise or be that hard to shift.

I for got to add, I do have a tri-ax shifter, it was my first mod. I was also thinking it was a clutch problem, but I did try and move the stock quadrant back a notch and it seemed to better about a week ago, it just wont stay there. Everytime I use the clutch it clicks back up a notch and gets the funny feeling again. I do get great gas mileage with the car though, or at least I think it's great anyway.
