Default Aftermarket tach on '00 GT?

Is it possible to hook up my OBX 5" tach (one power, one ground, and one signal wire) to my 2000 mustang gt without buying a tach adapter? When I call the tech lines all I get is "buy a tach adapter", but it just seems as though there should be a way to make it work...so far my attempts have only resulted in a tach reading of b/t 7000 and 8000 at idle, but does increase when I hit the throttle...it is acting like it is being multiplied or something to that effect.

Anyway if anyone has any ideas I would love the help. O and by the way my current set up has the signal wire going to the Crankshaft position sensor in the PCM. The power and ground are secure.

Thanks all
-Tyler

The tach adapter is the easiest, bestand only way I know how to do it.

I've never tried it with a tach but I have my Raptor shift light wired in at the ECM behind the pass. kick panel on the number one coil trigger wire. However, I also have the raptor set to "one cylinder" mode. I dunno if your tach has that feature.

Tach adapters areinexpensive and safe.

there is no way to do it. You have to buy the tach adapter because of the type of signal that the computeruses toread the rpms.
