Default Cam question

I'm about to buy a VT stage 2 cam for my car. My question is do i need both the springs and the retainers, or do i just need the springs. To be honest with you i don't even know what a retainer is and does. If you wouldn't mind explaining that either.

ps. I know i will not get full use out of my cam until i can rev the car up to 6500 but i have plans to forge the motor at Christmas! It just something i can do now. Plus my friends are going to do the install for free! And also do you think i should upgrade the injectors also while im doing the cam?All comments are welcome!

Default RE: Cam question

Retainers hold the valvesprings in place, and you dont really need to get new ones. But definitely get new beehive valvesprings. Leave the injectors alone, that cam will never give you enough power where you have to upgrade your injectors.

Only serious power adders require injector upgrade. You will have to get the car tuned though like SCT or diablosport to get full potential out of your cams, also you need to play around with your idle to make sure your car idles decent and doesnt die because of the cams.

I gotCrower springs from VT engines, and they came with retainers. Most springs come with retainers, they are not seperate. You will see the option of going with steel or titanium, you will be fine with steel...
