just had 4:30's installed a week ago and this past friday my rear end burnt up going down the interstate. welded all the clutches together and burned all the new bearings. what could cause this problem??
Whomever installed them screwed up.........
It's not the friction modifier.
You can leave out the friction modifier and at worst you will have chatter on turns and unless 99 percent of your driving is going in tight circles it won't harm anything.

Sounds like either fluid was not put in the rear or the mesh is way too tight.
Either way you should have had warning signs????
Nothing?????

It's really not all that confusing. Quality parts/oil + proper install + proper break in =no problems.

I'd be talking to the gear guy over at your place of employment who did the install.

They should have just took off the cover, drained the fluid, sprayed brake clean/parts cleaner like crazy, I used 5 cans of it when I did my gears, and cleaned both sides of the diff cover, used black rtv, and filled it. If they did it right...there is NO reason why it should have started to whine. Any leaking?? And I personally think it it too much of a conisidence(sp)...I would either take it back to them, or change it myself....it's REALLY easy.

I'm assuming you did the proper break in period before hitting the highway. If you did that and everything else right, it's pretty much got to be a bad install. What does the shop that did them for you say?
Is it really necessary to break in gears, some people say yes, but other people do gear installs and are at the track same day.....

I have to ask this, I know you said you filled it with lube and modifier, ( the modifier, or lack of it won't cause this) but after it cooked itself, did it still have any lube in it or could it have possibly sprung a leak.

I read from Performance gear install sheet, that you should "take it easy" for 200 miles. I'm trying to follow that...50 miles to go....I still get on it, just not from a dead stop...ie: burnout, or what they call "shock load". I am gonna change my gear fluid after about 500 miles or so....but I'm just paranoid!

my rear end leaks in 3 places...

the front where the driveshaft is, axle grease is all over my right rim, and where the diff cover is... these stock rear ends love high hp on dr's dont they? lol.

makes the sound of a kenne bell twin screw. lol. guessing im low on rear fluid as it leaks all over the driveway. and has that kinda whine..
