Default Tuner. Are they worth it

well im a college kid and im working this summer and my rents wont let me spend a **** load of money on my car, as i just bought new head lights and full exhaust. right now i have:

3.73 gears
CAI
Performance Distributors
And the exhaust

i wanna get a tuner but im not sure if it is worth spending almost 400 bucks, for only like 20-25 hp. just wondering if u can use someone elses which i didnt think u could, or buy them used. i mean if they really help then ill just get one soon after i have the money. also looking at doing a tb/plenum combo from professional products. what do you guys think of my ideas. Input is most helpful.

Thanks Everyone,

Zach

I felt a big difference on my car, but then again it's an auto. I got mine for $350 shipped at American Muscle (discount code: mustangboards). I would recommend a tune from somewhere else though. You cannot use someone elses as the tuners are VIN locked to the vehicle the tune is downloaded to.

Your car is so mildly modified that a tuner won't make as big a difference, but it still will make a difference.

Remember if you're a "starving student" with a tight budget, stick a premium tune on your car & you'll need to buy premium gas for it all the time [:@]$ ouch

don't expect anything even close to 20+HP. i don't know where you got that figure from. it's going to be more like 6-8.

+1, the tuner would only be beneficial for a car slightly modded when it's an automatic.

dude save your money. trust me. you'll need the money in college. i spent my money on mods and now im in a pinch to pay tuition. just keep saving up your money. right now that 400 wont do much if anything for your car. save it incase something at school pops up and if it doesn't then you'll have a lot of money to spend. you only need about 1500 for a supercharger

Ive seen Vortec Kits going for 1500 on Ebay... But i wanted a Procharger Kitt intercooled soo i passed.. on 2 occasions. and you can get superchargers cheap. but will need more stuff for them to Run Effectively.
