31 Spline Factory Trac-Loc
Are these units any good? I want to upgrade and found this for sale. I didn't know if it would be as good as a aftermarket unit. I just want to get a weak setup. I came out of a 2005+ GT.

There is a guy in the classifieds selling a supposedly factory diff out of I am guessing a 2005+ GT. He said it was a 31 spline factory trac-loc. Being that I know very little about the newer GT's I have no clue what comes factory so I guess that is why I had asked the question to make sure it is in fact a 31 spline from the factory and that it is a quality diff that will withstand high horsepower.

I didn't think the 05+ cars had 31 spline?
If your looking for a cheap (er) setup try to find an explorer 31 spline setup. you can use the carrier from there, but you will need aftermarket 31 spline axles. its cheaper, but the exploerer unit will not be as strong.
on the other hand, MDvaldosta went at least 1.5 60's on this setup with 400 WHP~, a full weight car, and full out slicks.

The S197 (05-07) GTs do have factory 31 spline 8.8rears. These are basically F150 , Explorer ,etc. diffs.Overall, they are pretty strong. If you are going to run one with some descent power/traction, I recommend this.........tear it down, de-burr /smooth the case (remove all sharp edges from factory machining, etc. Rebuild it with the new style cfclutch kit and shim on the tight side. Most the time, half a bottle of friction modifier is enough.
