Clicking, noisy differential on turning DOH Ford Dealership!
So I brought my 02 GT vert into a San Diego Ford Dealer in the fall of 2003 complaining of a clunking noise upon turning at low speeds.... was educated it was the differential.
The monkeys added some friction modifier and changed the fluid. Too bad they didn't torque down the bolts. 50,000 miles later I get under the car to do the SAME fluid change for preventive maintenance and find a leaky differential gasket with barely any fluid left in it and bolts barely tightened down. Thankfully there haven't been any problems.
A few hours to accomodate for the learning curve and a flash thunderstorm + just under two quarts of Royal Purple 75w140 and Ford's friction modifier and she's back to smooth riding! No more clunk and a nice, oiled up differential.
Any experiences similar to this? Also, I am going to swap the tranny fluid w/ Royal Purple Synchromax unless you have any other suggestions. Just a daily driver, not modified, but loved since the day I bought her.

RE: Clicking, noisy differential on turning DOH Ford Dealership!
I do most of the work on my vehicles, however whenever I do have other do soemthing because of the need for a lift/exotic tools/etc. I ALWAYS check their work as soon as I can--including checking that bolts, nuts and, anything that can be loose isn't (I check my own work too a couple days later).Numerous times I havefound loose, stripped, or missingfasteners, this seems to happen most withcovers and NVH associataed things where they were just too damned lazy to put all the fasteners back in. I've also foundimproperly (or not at all)plugged in electrical connectors, mis-aligned parts that were forced together, pinched wires, you name it...Sounds like you got lucky, if you don't beat on a rear-end it really doesn't take much oil to keep it lubed; if they get hot from working hard low oil can be deadly though. On another note, RP gear oilcontains friction modifier and additional f/m is not required. Adding more may reduce the efficacy of the traction-loc.

I used the Ford friction modifier in the oil...... no problems so far. Been about a few hundred miles since. How can I test the limited slip efficacy of my differential??? Do some burnouts?
Suggestions?
