Ford racing or motive rear end gears?

RE: Ford racing or motive rear end gears?
I'd get ford racing. Motives are fine but harder to install due to tolerances and quality control.
As far as install, i'm not sure how mechanicaly inclined you are. I did my own gear install but one of the very few. Aside from your basic tools. You'll need a dial indicator with magnetic base to check the backlash (between .08-.015). Digital Calipers/micrometer to measure the shimsize for the pinion shims, and differential shims. 3 Jaw 5ton puller. A 10 ton press to press on the differential and carrier bearings. (I had a shop do mine, presses are thousands of dollars) A good in/lb wrench and ft/lb wrench. Large breaker bar... i'm sure i'm leaving something out.
Aside from that, i'd buy an entire bearing kit from summit, cost about 100$. Comes with all the bearings, races, and shims you'll need.Along with axle bearings and seals, crush sleeve, and pinion nut. Probably the best $100 you could spend especially if you try doing it yourself.

I've heard that a few times, but my motives were fine. The install was the same as you are saying....500 miles and no problems

The only difference is that with FRPP the shim size should be the same as stock... while with motives theyll change. You are correct... there isn't too much difference when installing them yourself, but they are more difficult for shops and cost more because the pinion depth tool doesnt work with anything other than ford gears.
