trans type/speedo/performance chips
Hi guys, Its my first post here so go easy on me. Bought a 2002GT Auto about a month ago and have been on this site pretty much every day since trying to learn (I wasnt a car person before, boy has that changed).
1. The car is an auto, and I have been having trouble figuring out what transmission it has. Most of the other posts I have seen about this seem to only deal with manual transmissions? like the 3650? On the door panel it has the letter "U" under the TR section, if thats any help.
2. I will be installing gears (4.10s). What is the easiest way to fix the speedometer? The only way I know is using one of those handheld tuners. Is there any other way?
3. I have been told that I should buy a performance chip. First up, I dont want to run any higher than 87 octane so will I really notice a difference? Also, whats the difference between a performance chip, and just buying a handheld tuner. Do both have the same capabilities?
Please go easy on me in case those are stupid questions haha I still have a long ways to go in terms of learning! Thanks everyone

RE: trans type/speedo/performance chips
1. im not a auto sorry i cant help you
2. if you dont want to buy a tuner get a dallas speedcal.
3. since u are stock a tuner is not worth it. i barly felt anything with my 93 octane tune let alone a 87 octane tune. usually it matters on what your tuner wants to use. most people just reflash their stock computer with a handheld. the only benifit you will get out of ur tuner with how u stand now is to fix ur speedo and to firm up ur shifts. supposably it makes ur auto feel alot stronger but thats just want i hear cuz i have a 5 speed.
