98 PI swap?
Hey yall my dad has a 98 gt vert. and ive kinda convinced him to think about sellin it and gettin a older classic one (he wants a 65) and i know we could make that a hot little car with say a 302 and a perf build on it. But im wondering know if we wouldn't be better off jsut keeping the 98 and doing a PI swap with a mild performance cam and full exhaust with no cats. Just wondering how much work is involved in doing this and what parts yall who have done it used and how much power your making. Thanks in advance.
It all depends on what you want. I like the newer fuel injected cars myself. If you like the look and simplicity of the older ones then go for it. If you like the comfort or the newer ones then keep what you got. If you are mechanically inclined and have some patiance then I say do it yourself. If you put on a set of PI heads and a set of stage 2 cams from VT with full exhaust your looking somewhere around 280 rwhp I'd figure if not a little more. I've got the stage 2 cams and they have a really nice chop at idle. If you decide to keep the 98 and do the PI swap I also have a set of PI heads and cams for sale. One of the heads needs a valve but you could use one of the valves out of the non PI heads you have now. PM me if interested.
well knowing your dad as i know my dad, a classic build would be alot easier to do yourself, no computer **** and all that crapass wiring. a 302 and a 4.6 are about on par on what power they can make so you wouldn't see one making alot more power than another really, but as the other guy up top me said, it's much simpler to do a classic build, and also it will be alot bigger head turner than a 98GT, even tho IMO pre 69coupe stangslooked kinda boring
Yeah i love the simplicity of those older ones, and he knows how to work on those because he had a 65, he might actually help me do the work, on the 98 i would be doing all the work, im kinda leanin towards just hopin he gets a classic one, i do love the 98 though, and its not slow lol, even being a non PI.
