Default Really bad noise - help!

I have a 1998 Cobra that has been lowered quite a bit. The problem I am having is when the car gets warm and I make a left hand turn I get a terrible rubbing noise from underneath. This is during acceleration and it happens even when I push the clutch all the way in and just coast. The sound lasts only a few seconds and seems to go away. I have had the exhaust checked 3 times to see if it is rubbing the drive shaft and that does not seem to be it.

The rubbing sound almost sounds like metal on metal and it is coming from underneath/rear of the car - it has a vibration to it. I have been reading these forums and other forums on related issues and I am pretty sure it is not the differential. I can also get it to do it in my driveway (left turn) by rocking back and forth. Any ideas?

Thanks!

How do your brake pads look onyour car? Also my E-brake cable was loose & it would make this god awful metal on metalnoise taking left turns. Just a few simple things to rule out quickly...

Brake pads are ok - about 30k left on them, but the rotors are a bit warped. Also the ebrake doesn't hold to well. I might want to look into that.

Just a FYI, the E-brake on our cars are more of a 'parking' brake just to create a little resistance, but that was the source of the problem on my car, Left turns I would get the nastiest sounding metal on metal sound.

Next time you are driving, lightly pull up on the brake while going straight and see if you can duplicate the sound, I could.

Thanks for the info - I will try that at lunch. This sound is really ticking me off - a moaning metal on metal sound that only lasts for a few seconds once the car is warm. I also noticed one of my new rear shocks (drivers side) was being scraped (has some of the paint missing) right were it compresses - as if it where being scraped when it actually does compress. Tried bouncing to car up and down, but didnt't get any similar sound.

I had it in yesterday getting an odometer gear replaced and the service guys saw that my Eibach sway bar in the back was hitting the exhaust and they adjusted it, but that didn't take care of sound unfortunately.

Update: Had the u-joints replaced and all seems well now. Apparently one joint was worn out and binding.

I thought I had this taken taken care of - sigh... Though the car is running much better - the sound is still there and I am starting to think it has to do with the brakes. I know my rotors are warped because I get slight pulsation when braking. My question is could a warped rotor cause the caliper to hang or could the rotor some cause to bind causing a moaning noise after a turn? Can the caliper/brake pads be adjusted to compensate for this until I get new rotors?

it depends on how bad the warp is.. i know some places if the warp is minimal it can be machined/shaped back to near original specs, but this will cost you just short of what a new rotor would so its not really cost effective.
