At what mileage would you change the tranns oil in a 5-speed? I heard that since its a 5-speed ,i didn't need to change the tranns oil,it's this true?And if i change it to other brand other than motorcraft what would be a good choice(brand)? THANKS

60,000 or 48 months whichever comes first. They are wrong. It needs to be changed. when I did mine, the fluid was as black as black can get. after the change, my stick shift would no longer get extremely hot after driving for a few hours.

use the original oem oil and nothing else.

What kind is the original oil? MERCON? What brand? Anyone ever use B&M tranny fluid?

I have a 5 speed and I use GM syncromesh or how ever you spell it. And the difference was awesome. Don't feel bad dropping in a GM fluid either.

Most of us have switched to Royal Purple Syncromesh and have had NO problems doing so.

RP all the way! Use 3 litres or 3 quarts, its close enough. Dont over fill it. I called Ford themselves and they said that the RP would be much better than motorcraft junk

Just did mine, I used 3.2 qrts of Mercon V. Shifts a lot better.

IMO you should change it the day you get your car, regardless of the milage.

This is my thinking because I think everyone should run full synthetic in their trans (and rear/engine for that matter). Full syn ATF FTW!

EXACTLY!!!! This is what I do and I have never had any problems with ANY vehicle I have owned! 3.3qts of Dextron/Mercon V fully synthetic is what I used
