Default Problem indicators

Still looking at this 02 GT at a local dealer. The more I look, the more I see. A previous owner has replaced the stock Mach stereo with an aftermarket (doesn't bug me too much) but one portion of the dash appears to have been painted with spray paint. It blends pretty well (I didn't notice it the first time or two I looked at the car) but it is starting to bug me now.

I looked closer at the interior and although the seats look great, other items bug me a little. For example, paint on the fins of the dash mounted vents has flaked in some small spots. There is obvious wear on the plastic that surrounds the shifter. It just seems like it shouldn't show this much wear for a car that is only 3 years old and has 21,000 miles on it. What are the chances that these small cosmetic things are indicators that this thing was rode hard and put away wet? Or are Mustangs prone to interior wear? Would things like this concern you guys?

Before I fork out my money I want to know what I'm getting into. Its been a long time since I've bought a used car. Maybe I've just been spoiled by buying new for so many years. Thoughts?

sorry for the long post.

My 99 has 48k miles on it, and my interior is almost perfect. I guess if some didnt take care of it, it wouldnt take long to mess up. IMO the interior wouldnt stop me from buying a GT for a good deal. That is kinda weird though, youd think an 02 would look closer to new than that.

Personally, if it bugs you that much, just look for another one. There are tons of them out there.
It sounds to me like the previous own just didn't take care of the interior and did a crappy job of painting the dash pieces, which would make me wonder about what else on the car he didn't take care of.

It doesn't sound good to me either.

There's no way the colour should be coming off the vents. Something weird is going on there.

My 02 GT interior is still perfect. I'd move on from it.

my 01 GT is still in perfect condation, I would personality look for another car with better interior, that way it is less money that you have to spend on making the car look good and can spend on it to make it faster. There are a lot of mustangs out there use some pacitence and find the one that you really want!!!!! shop around some more you are bound to find a better one!!! good luck

I know how you feel I am nit picky about my car. For being 8 years old now, Damn I forgot it was that old.... Any way for being 8 years old the only wear on my interior is the front driver seat has cracks in bottom cushion and theres flat spots on my floor mat from my feet! The rest of the car is damn near mint! no color fade no cracks on my leather seats, not fading no nothing. Oh except for small bubbles on the arm rest portions of the doors. Anyone know how to fix that? I say go find another one! Just my .02
