Default which headers..

I am currently in the process of doing th pi swap on my 98 gt, and was wondering if, anyone knew what would be the best headers to go with, long tube or shorty, andwhich brand of headers. I was also wondering if it was possible to run a3" exhast all the way through, or is the 2.5" all i really need?

You only need a 2.5". Kooks, SLP, and Hooker are the best for long tubes. Bassani mid lenghts might are worth looking at, they make getting at the trasmission easier than with longtubes. BBK and Mac are ok, but certainly not the best. Skip the shortys unless they're all you can afford.

just get the cheapest brand. unless your car sees a lot of rain and snow, the MAC or BBK will be just fine. don't expect any big power increases though.

not to hijack but with the bassani midlengths, do you need a shorty midpipe or will a regular one fit?

LTs are great, but are a pain in the a$$. You'll have a real hard time dropping the trans or replacing a starter, you can't lower your car more than 1.25" and be safe, and ( IMO) I don't think it's worth all of the hassle. Shorty headers will give you some power, not as much as LTs, but they're so much more manageable. I used FRPP headers and I liked them. I saw about 10 hp at the wheels with light supporting mods. It's less hp, but a lot less hassle.

And if you use Bassani mid length you're going to need their matching mid pipe.

Thanks for all the info, but I was wondering why you could not use long tube headers, with mor than a 1.25" lowering set-up? I currently have a 2" lowering system and do not have any issue with it.

Some of the longtubes headers hang low, so with a drop placing them even closer to the ground you might be scraping the **** out of your new headers on even the smallest bumps.

I went with shorties, because I dont want to have worry about scraping LTs
