off road midpipes
For the guys that have the exhausts with no cats. When sitting and idling, does it begin to smell like exhaust in the car pretty heavily? It gets a little worse when I begin to take off. I assume it has to do with the catalytic converters but thought I'd get the experts opinions....

I liked the way it smelt before I got cats put on. Now it has the worse smell ever almost like something is roten. But when I had mine w/o cats it wasnt anything that would bother anyone. You could only smell it if you sat still for a while, like a minute or two. And I had a big exhaust leak were it conects to the manifold too.

While it is possible that you have an exhuast leak, and that is causing you to smell the gasses, the way you described them as 'different' than before means it's more than likely just the lack of cats on your vehicle.
If you're in a location where either the breeze is blowing just right, or there is a lack thereof and the smells can flood your cabin, you're just smelling the different gasses that are not being burnt off like they were before you replaced the midpipe with an o/r one.
It's just something you've got to deal with. I won't say that I like the way that it smells, but it's a neat reminder that your car is definately uncatted when you get a whiff then cruise off.
If it's horrible all the time, or gets alot worse over time, consider checking for an exhaust leak at the manifolds, or even where the mid meets the catback, either of these would keep fumes under the car, and they'd make their way right into your face.

if the mid pipe is brand new it could just be burning off the gasses and other material that comes from the factory on the inside of the pipes. if that is the case it will burn off and be fine. like machone99GT said it is a reminder that our car is not stock and has a little extra done to it.

if I drive my car with my windows down for about an hour, by the time im done Ill smell like exhaust heavily. No I dont have any exaust leaks. this is after city driving. I have an O/r H pipe.
The smell you smell is due to the lack of cats and the exaust is "richer"

i never notice the smell unless i walk behind the car, or idle for a little bit and back up. people say they can smell it when they follow me. i just dont notice it at lights or crusing.

Yea someone mentioned its bad for you... I now sit at redlights thinking should I hold my breath? lol
Is there enough there to do harm to you? My car doesn't smell real heavily. Just noticable sometimes...
