Default Flywheel!

im putting a new 2v motor in my 00 GT and I was looking at flywheels. I wanted to get an 12ibs aluminum, but without telling me he got a steel. My questions is am I at a disadvantage with the steel if im just going to build the motor later on? Would the aluminum hold up? I've heard these shave off a good bit on your e/t's?

Aluminums rev up and down faster and reduce the amount of rotating mass, but theres lots of people here running big numbers and low times with a steel flywheel. As long as you stick with a good quality company you'll be fine.

I've heard that aluminum flyw2heels make the car harder to launch due to the reduced inertia to get the car moving, but I've never driven with one.

The aluminum flywheel does make the car a bit more finicky to launch. The aluminum flywheel can help trap speed, if you can shift quickly and efficiently.

That being said, an aluminum flywheel will give you minimum gains, and is usually highly exaggerated.
