Default Boost on "plastic" intake ??

I am new here, and to the Mustang experience (well, since the early 80's anyway). I was considering boost (SC) for my 05. My concern is the plastic (looks that way to me) intake, if I go Vortec, etc. will these intakes take the pressure and heat? While they do these intakes in the pictures on their web sites, it seems to me like SC makes extra heat, so it might not be the best senario.

I would prefer the whipple top of engine bolt on, but don't know if they are available for the 4.6L 3 valve. I can't imagine a better blower set-up that on the engine. That's the "roots" type used on the 03-04 Cobras (Eaton built), as I understand it. Things may have changed a lot over the last 20 years. Vortec, etc. could be the ticket.

Any comments from owners of blown set-ups ??

I would go non-roots on the '05s just b/c their torque/hp curve is so flat already. Not like it needs the extra UMPH to get going down low. I would go Vortech.

just be careful using nitros, if you were to decide to go that route. i have heard of nitros backfire blowing those intakes apart. sweet ride.

There will be a Whipple avalible for your 05. All the products whipple is doing now are twin screw and not roots. Since you wanted to go the twin screw route, a minimum of 3 different companies will make a twin screw product for the 05's.

Hey Birdieman4,
You mentioned you're getting an 05 S281E.... I hear they are going for 63-64k. I've also heard that the next cobra should be pushing similar numbers and it'll probably be 25k cheaper so what I'm asking is... are you sure you want to spend all of that money?

Here are my thoughts on the subject. The word is the new cobra will be making around 450 hp. I know some have said 500, but realisticly it won't be that high. With the new E car, it will hold its value better than the new cobra. Also, there are quite a few people that want an 05 S281E, and Saleen won't build enough in 05 to satisfy the demand. So in early 06, the E car will still fetch a good price (if I decided to part with it- that's not the plan as of yet). Also, I'm not paying sticker for the S281E. Lets just say I'm getting a good deal on the 05 E car. That the main crux of it. I will keep the E car for a while, then I'll probably decice to either sell it bone stock, or start modding it some and up the boost. (I am curious to see what the 3v motor will do under some serious boost). But the bottom line is I am buying the E car because I am getting a good deal on it. Also, I will have the first E car avalible to the public, so it will be a single digit production # on the car, designated by Saleen as the 'first one avalible to the public'. That will help it's value as well down the road. If I bought the new cobra, I would need to dump some $ into it right away. (Exhaust, suspension upgrades, etc) With the E car it will be good to go right out of the box. The first thing I will do once I get the E car is throw it on the dyno.
