Default sputtering, misfiring? HELP PLEASE

i just got back from school and theres an open road that i usually like to give it a little gas.
well doing this my car started to sputter for a second then it caught and kept riding fine.
this happend to my dad before so i just called him and he said we'll check it out.
i just wanted to see what others think. he said maybe clogged fuel filter or plugs.
any input is appreciated guys.

206xxx.
the last time it was serviced was when my dad still owned it. so about 5 months ago.
only thing ive done was my oil changes. time for a tune up im thinking to see if that helps at all.

i would change the fuel filter first, it seems like most people tend to forget to change it, if it still acts up after that, start looking at the plugs and wires

Mine was doing what you're describing so I changed the plugs and now it runs like a champ. Sorry to jack your thread, but should you always change wires when you change plugs, or does it matter? I ask this because I just changed plugs and left the same wires for now.

Fuel filter is a possibility. Needs to be changed every 24k. Make sure there is no water in your plug wells and coil packs.

my car has done this twice now, each time it fixed itself. i dont know whats causing it, i was told possibly the spark plugs (once after i swapped intake manifolds, once after this weekend at the track). my guess is my problem is ignition related (either bad plug, bad cop, or something bad in ignition somewhere along the lines). threw a CEL code at me monday misfiring in cyl 1. agian, it fixed itself when i got in my car to go to dinner. i still replaced my plugs, cleaned the cops, well see if it comes back.
