my dad said to me the other day he saw my exhaust coming out alot while he was following but it was cold out and i have a o/r pipe. today i was leaving class and i smelt that burning oil smell, thought it was my car but maybe not so i check my oil dipstick and it was at the lower min hole, my dad told me he puts 6 and 1/2 quarts in his 4.6 f150, i only put 6 qts when i did an oil change, should i use synthetic or add something such as z max (as im typing this i see it on the speed channel haha its a sign from god!)

no 6 qts is about right, I do run synthetic myself... its just the catless smell, and probly when you stomp it your burning off some carbon

well i have a craftsman lawnmower thtat burns oil like crazy and i smelt that smell...

eh, its pretty rare for a 4.6 as long as its been taken care of. Synthetic will just make it worse btw. The properties of it make so slipery it will just blow past the rings. Its very common to burn more synthetic then conventional oil. And ford says that as long as you do not burn more than 1 quart per 1000 miles it is in spec....sad but true.

i burn it pretty well i got an o/r pipe and i use synthetic, i always keep an extra qt in my trunk just in case and chesk it pretty often

My subaru has 14k miles on it and it burns about a quart every 2k. My mustang at just over 86K burns about 1 quart every 1500 miles or so and that car has had anything but an easy life. synthetic of course...
