Default Universal joint replacement 2002 GT

A friend of mine has a 2002 GT and wants me to replace his U-joints for him.
I have done several other cars including my 85 GT. The guy says someone told him
there is a rubber ring around the u-joint which has to be "melted off" ?? to get the old ones out.
I have never seen anything like this and was wondering what I was getting into.
Any help is appreciated.

Also known as a Hooke Joint, Universal Joint or U-Joint, it is a simple flexible coupling using a double yoke and four-point center cross. Cardan joints are used as couplings in the driveshafts of rear-wheel drive cars. Because they can produce uneven shaft speeds when operated at joint angles of more than a few degrees, they're usually not used with front-wheel drive (because the front wheels also steer and create large operating angles).

Casper,
You were right, same as any other U-Joint. Probably the typical BS from a garage to scare you away from doing it yourself.
But it turns out it wasnt the U-Joints after all, the guy hasnt had it long, the previous owner must have had the driveshaft out because the 4 bolts attaching the yoke to the diff were loose.
Tightened em up and all is fine.
Also replaced the spark plugs in it, I was surprised at how easy they were consinering the shop wanted 118.00 to do it.

yeah very easy. some people even come on here and complain because they cant get the fuel rails off...lol. Little do they know it doesnt come off for plugs. But yeah, i hope you didnt just use a 12 point 12mm and tighten them up.... Make sure you remove them, one at a time and put thread lock on them.
