You can get forged rods and pistons for around $800. You will need to buy new bearings and new rings. You will have to go to the machine shop with your bare block and have them rehone and clean it before you install the new parts. Most shops will assemble the shortblock for you for about $150. If you are on a budget then reuse your block and do what I just said. I built mine for $2100 and it is stronger then MMRs 900 they sell for $3500 + shipping.

Most people on here will tell you to just buy a built block because thats what they did or they are afraid to do it themselves. I was affraid my first time building a shortblock and was suprised how easy it was.

WHAT THE HELL ARE U TALKING ABOUT DUDE!!!! FORGING SOLUTION,, THROW MY BLOCK AWAY WHAT IS THIS GUY SMOKING ben790450
Relax man, he was joking about the "forging solution." And dont throw your shortblock away, sell it and buy a new one.

Otherwise if you're gonna build your own, you really should have the block decked, torque plate bored/honedand line bored if you can afford it all. At thevery leasttorqe plate bored/honed. That will ensure you have a block with accurate, perfectly round bores. Also, have them torque the plates down to the torque spec you actuallyplan to run on the heads.

Yes the new pistons and rods will need to be balanced. And as the others have said, spend the extra cash and get the forged steel crank. Forged steelH beam rodswould be extra insurance over I beams. Eagle, ModMax, Manley and Scat are all good. CP, Manley and Diamond make excellent pistons (Id personally use CP).

You don't need a different oil pan, but a 7qt would be nice.
