Question about a 96 gt to cobra conversion
Whats all involved by changing a 1996 gt to a cobra. I know the wiring, engine and computer but not sure what else. Just getting an idea on what to expect if I decide to change it over. Thanks

RE: Question about a 96 gt to cobra conversion
seeing this is what im doing, i hsould know, ahha. other things you need to add to your list are breaks, suspension, wheels (your gunna need 17inch wheels to fit the bigger cobra brakes) I think you might need a new front roll bar liek the one over yur engine in the gt. . . it might not be different tho, im not too sure. But yea definately look into the cobra suspension and see what the setup is like in a cobra and look into that conversion. You also might wanna be ballsy and throw in a 6 speed transmission thats in the 03/04 cobras to handle the more hp that your car wil be getting. Thats all i can think of for now.

If its just the motor than you need the motor obviously ,You need the engine wiring harness and you should get the ecu to keep it simple. There are a few other wiring sections that you will need so the imrc's work as well as secondary air injection. I do nont know where to get those sections and that is what I am looking for right now for my car.

You can use your GT wiring harness. You'll need to get a tune, IMCR deletes, a longer throttle cable, and I'm sure there's something else that I can't think of right now. A few people have done the swap and I'm sure they'll chime in.

+1 on the throttle cable I forgot about that one. I have done the swap and the throttle cable was the hardest part to find. The IMRC's are a pain. I would delete them but its on the same part of the wiring as the secondary air injection. I live in CA soI need that part to work or I wont pass smog.

just buy a pretty much complete engine, that's all you'll need, take it to a shop to have it installed and they will let you know what odds/ends parts you need, if i tried the swap all by myself without a exp. shop hand, it would of been a lot harder than what i thought.
