Default Help: Griding noise from engine or trans on cold start

my problem started this winter and it hapens about 50% of the time on cold starts only
ill start the car and sometimes i will hear a grinding noise (like i had missed a shift ony not as loud) comming from somewhere near the front of the car. sometimes it will go away after a few seconds and just recently it started to linger a little longer. as long as 30 or 40 seconds.
it starts as a continious grind but if it continues past the first few seconds it will start and stop 2 or 3 times a second. almost like it was a highspot in the flywheel rubbing something.
thats the best i can explain it.. i was thinking it may be the starter.. and i hope i didnt throw a bering nor do i know what that would sound like.
Please help

My car, '03 GT, was doing that until I finally figured out it was the A/C compressor. I figured no big deal and I would take care of it when I had a chance.
Well......today the compressor seized and wouldn't turn so I had to tow the car home! Just loosen the belt and turn all the pulleys to see which one is making the grinding noise!

when i first bought my 99 slo-bra it was macking a noise from the tranny. i brought it back to the dealer and my clutch fork needing adj. may not be the same thing. but it did sound like a grinding/ticking noise. very annoying.

o and it would also come and go once in a while
