noise ONLY 5th gear
i have an 02 gt with 39,000 miles on it. two weeks ago it began making a subtle screaching noise. Nothing that sounds alarming but its enough to tick me off. it happens when shifting into 5th gear in the ranges of 45-70 mph. i havent had a chance recently to get on it more than that. Does anyone have a clue whta could be going wrong with my car? I have a buddy that says he would put money on my flywheel but it doesnt make sense to me.

Do you have a stock shifter? Does it go away after the car warms up? Mine makes a noise only in 5th but it doesn't screach. Its more like a rattling noise but it goes away when the car warms up. I have an MGW shifter however so noises are not unusual with non-stock shifters.

dude i have no clue. i have a stock shifter and i've only noticed it since its been cold. AND after the car does warm up it stops, i have no clue what is going on. i'm glad someone else has this problem other than me. i guess it probably means its nothing bad?

My 02 gt does the same thing too. Only in fifth but also when I shift into neutral from 5th while moving.
Anyone have a clue? My guess would be the trowout bearing since it squeaks all the time in the first place.
